Whether it is the O Level, the IGCSE or the IBDP, 4 sets of English Language skills will be tested:

  • Reading

  • Writing

  • Listening

  • Speaking

These skills affect one another. For example, when you become better at reading, you also become better at writing.

During my lessons, the student will work on each of these skills - and synergistically improve her/his overall language proficiency.

My Workflow

Here's how I go about helping my student:

  • Get a clear picture of the student's ability. Help the student identify her/his current strengths and weaknesses. These will then become the focus of the tuition sessions.

  • Repeat the strengths. Encourage the student to do what she/he is good at, and to do it consistently.

  • Reduce the weaknesses. Help the student plug the gaps in her/his language skills through practice and correction.

Practice and correction is an important aspect of language learning, but it is often overlooked. During my lessons, however, it is something I insist on.

Our Focus During Lessons

We will focus on the skills required for the examinations. The student will know clearly:

  • how an exercise is related to the examination, and

  • why we do the exercise in a particular way.
